Cookie Policy

Last updated: 20 July 2026

This policy explains what PrepDaF stores in your browser and why.

It covers cookies as well as local storage — a similar browser feature we use to remember a few settings on your device.

1. The short version

We only store what the site needs to work: keeping you signed in, remembering your language and theme, and holding your place in the placement test.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not currently use analytics or tracking cookies. If that changes, we will ask for your consent first.

2. Types of cookies we use

Essential — required for PrepDaF to work

  • Authentication — keeps you signed in.
  • Security — protects the sign-in process from being tampered with.
  • Session — holds your session together while you move between pages.

Functional — remembers choices you made

  • Your language: English or German.
  • Your theme: light or dark.
  • Your place in a task — which exam and level you are working on, and your progress in the placement test, so closing a tab by accident does not lose your work.

Both groups either keep the site running or carry out a setting you chose yourself. Under EU rules neither needs your consent, which is why you do not see a cookie banner.

Analytics — we do not use these

We do not measure page views, navigation patterns or feature usage, and we set no advertising cookies. If we ever introduce analytics, we will ask for your consent first and update this page.

Some of the functional items above are stored in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie. It works the same way from your side, and you can clear it the same way.

3. Cookies set by others

Signing in uses Google. When you do that, Google may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy — we do not control them and cannot read them.

Our video, chat and community links (Telegram, Discord) lead to other companies' sites, which set their own cookies once you are there.

4. How to control this

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, and clear local storage the same way.

Blocking the essential ones will sign you out and may stop parts of the site from working, since they are the ones that make it run.
