Which exam should I pick: Goethe, telc, or TestDaF?
For a German university, take TestDaF or Goethe C1. TestDaF Lesen is covered today, and the remaining modules are in development. For work in Germany or the EU, take telc. For a globally recognised certificate or a line on your CV, take Goethe. We'll also recommend one after the diagnostic.
Which exams and levels does PrepDaF cover?
Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C1 is fully covered, with Lesen, Hören, Schreiben and Sprechen at every level. telc Deutsch is covered at A2, B1 and B2, including Sprachbausteine at B1 and B2. TestDaF covers Lesen, with Hören, Schreiben and Sprechen in development. Goethe-Zertifikat C2 is in development, and you can join the waitlist from your dashboard.
How long do I need to prepare?
As a rough guide, B1 to B2 takes about 12 weeks at ~25 minutes a day. Plan 16-20 weeks for C1. The app adjusts your plan to your diagnostic and your pace.
Is this better than a prep course or a tutor?
It costs less than most courses or tutors, and your plan adapts to your weak spots as you practise. AI feedback on writing and speaking is calibrated against the published CEFR descriptors, so every essay and recording is scored on the same criteria.
Do I need an account for the placement test?
No. It takes about 20 minutes and you can start straight away.
How does the AI scoring work?
Your writing and speaking are scored against the exam's assessment criteria, which follow the published CEFR descriptors. You get a separate score for task fulfilment, coherence, vocabulary and grammar, plus the specific sentences to fix, every time you submit.
Can I use PrepDaF on my phone?
Yes. The web app works on desktop, tablet and phone. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon.
What happens after the 7-day trial?
Your plan starts at the price you signed up for. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing. Founding prices stay locked for as long as your plan is active.
Will my employer or university recognise PrepDaF?
PrepDaF is a preparation tool and doesn't issue certificates. Your certificate comes from the Goethe-Institut, telc gGmbH or the TestDaF-Institut. PrepDaF gets you ready to sit and pass the official exam.
